How to make Hmong Eggrolls

Hmong eggrolls are fun to eat any time of year!  Here is a very basic recipe.  Experiment with other ingredients and add whatever you like to suit your taste!


  • 1 lb or 2 lb ground meat of your choice (pork, chicken, turkey, beef)
  • 2 cup shredded cabbage
  • 2 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 package rice vermicelli cellophane noodles
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk for sealing the wrapper
  • 50 sheets eggroll skins
  1. Add hot water to rice vermicelli cellophane noodles and let soak 5-10 minutes until soft.  Then take scissors and cut up the noodles.
  2. Mix meat, cabbage, carrots, onion, oyster sauce, salt, noodles, eggs until well combined.
  3. Peel the eggroll skins.
  4. Place eggroll skin on a flat surface. Add the eggroll mixture and roll up. Seal the ends with egg yolk.
  5. Fry in hot oil until golden brown.

Eat with some sweet chili eggroll sauce!



  What kind of cup did you use? 

I used a standard measuring cup like any found at Walmart or Target. I just put it in a white bowl for easy access.

Hi laniebcx, sure I can do a tutorial on that in the near future.  I may need to finally take out my hd video camera and tripod to do that one cos it will require two hands haha!!! So far I've been loving recording with the iphone cos its small and convenient.

Hello, and thank you for your very clear and easy to follow video.  Will any brand of eggroll wrappers do or are the ones you used the best?  In my grocery store they aren't frozen so I wasn't sure.  Also, should I get the noodles at the Asian store or are the ones they sell in the Asian section of the supermarket the same?   Thanks for your help.  I live in Fresno, CA, so I've eaten plenty of eggrolls my Hmong friends have made but to be able to make them myself is a dream come true! Yummy :)

Hi, you can use any brand of wrappers.  They also do not need to be frozen. Some wrappers are thicker than others, so you may need to fry longer.  The ones shown in my video are pretty thin and are very crispy when fried.  You can use any type of noodles too. Try and experiment! Good luck!

Can you show us how to make your egg roll sauces? I want to know how to make that peanut sauce for egg rolls.

Hi, there are  a variety of peanut sauces. The one in this video uses the sweet chili sauce, a squeeze of lime, and a spoon of fish sauce and crushed peanuts.

Great recipe, but I think 2 tbsp of salt is a bit too much.

Salt can be adjusted to your taste. It is a big batch of eggrolls.

i decided to make this today and I wanted to say ty for this recipe my boyfriend and i loved it i did it with ground pork and it came out delicious.  Ty so much for the time you put in this video great directions and easy.  I did use powdered chicken boullin for the seasoning. 


Do you know how to make the creamy peanut sauce? I had it years ago and I can't stop thinking about it every time I have an eggroll!
( It doesn't have chopped peanuts in it though and I think it's made from just the peanut butter. ?)

My friend Loreen has a really great recipe she gave me for making peanut sauce (it's a package that you buy from the store and mix in hoisin sauce and coconut milk and garlic chili). I eat it with eggrolls and spring rolls. I also use another peanut sauce made from peanut butter, coconut milk, curry paste, white vinegar, sugar, and water.  I'll do a sauce tutorial soon. I've gotten a lot of requests about it.

Hi there. I stumbled upon your youtube channel and was impress. I am only 19 years old, but being born and raised in America, I haven't quite yet got the catch of cooking (I mean I can cook for myself, but when it comes to making Hmong appetizers or actual Hmong dishes, including at cultural gatherings, I still need a lot of improvement). I always use Three Crabs brand fish sauce.

Your video says two teaspoons of salt, but your recipe says two TABLESPOONS of salt.  Which one is right?
